Cycle Challenge!

Well done to Jen for completing the famous Marmotte cyclosportive in July and raising over £1000 for Beat Asthma! The Marmotte covers a distance of 174.4 km (108.4 mi) and with 5,180 m (16,990 ft) of climbing is considered to be one of the hardest of any cyclosportive and comparable to the most challenging high mountain stages of the Tour De France.

Great North Running to Beat Asthma!

Thank you to our Team Beat Asthma Great North Runners!

Our Son Ryan was diagnosed with Asthma at the age of 13 months and has been in and out of hospital with it on many occasions, most recently during the summer holidays, where he was admitted to hospital after a severe asthma attack where he was struggling to breathe. It was an incredibly scary and worrying time for us as a family. However.. thanks to the amazing Hospital Doctors, Nurses and the Asthma Specialist Team from Beat Asthma Ryan made a good recovery and got back on his feet again with new medication and a new asthma management plan. My Husband and I decided to try and raise awareness of the effects of asthma on asthmatics and their families by running the Gateshead Trail 10k and the iconic event that is Great North Run for BeatAsthma, we also set up a justgiving page called Running for Ryan to hopefully raise funds for the BeatAsthma team, as our way of saying thank you to the team for all they did to help our boy.
I am pleased to say we completed both events and managed to raise a fantastic £600 which will help BeatAsthma continue the fantastic work they do. We are completely overwhelmed with the support of everyone who donated. Together WE CAN BEAT ASTHMA.

Mt Toubkal Challenge!

Thank you to Dee, who raised over £800 for BeatAsthma by an incredible effort climbing Mt Toubkal, the highest point in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Read about her adventure below:

I love an adventure and knew signing up to climb Mt Toubkal during December was going to be my biggest challenge yet. As someone who has asthma it was a natural choice for me to raise money for BeatAsthma. Knowing people had donated was the extra push I needed during the final hours walking up to the summit and stopped me giving up (even when I really wanted too). Thanks to everyone that donated and helped raise money for a great cause.

BeatAsthma secretary Dave braved the heat (and then the flash flooding) to complete the Great North Run and raise money for BeatAsthma. Thank you Dave!

Get in touch and tell us your story!

We’re always interested to hear about the ways you’re raising funds to help Beat Asthma, so if you’ve a story to share please get in touch!

Going to Great Lengths to Beat Asthma!

12 year old Leo and dad Michael from Scotland cycled an epic 1008 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End this October to raise some funds for Beat Asthma.

‘We chose Beat Asthma as over the course of the past few years, Leo had had many trips to A&E, out of hours and hospital because of breathing difficulties and problems with his lungs. In August, he had the worst episode so far while we were away on holiday and, as a result, has been diagnosed with asthma.

Alongside the advice from the hospital and our GP, the information from Beat Asthma has been invaluable and, while we hope that he’ll grow out of it, knowing there is a wealth of information and support available to him as he grows up is incredibly reassuring.’

Leo and has dad raised an incredible £1279 for BeatAsthma!
